What we learned switching schools mid-year
Sanjay & Divya Β· Jul 9
A November move, a new district, and a kid who didn't want to talk about it. Nobody plans a mid-year switch; here's what we'd repeat and what we'd never do again.
What we'd repeat
- Touring WITH him, not for him β he picked things to like before day one
- Emailing the teacher a one-paragraph intro of our son (what he loves, what he's shy about)
- Keeping ONE anchor from the old life β the same Sunday cricket group
What we'd never do again
Framing it as "you'll make new friends so fast!" He heard: your sadness is inconvenient. What worked was "this is hard, and you get to be sad about it" β he talked within a week. Kids don't need the move sold to them; they need it acknowledged.
